Exhibition Workshop 2023

Last year, the exhibition workshop ‘Das ist kolonial’ (That's colonial) invited visitors to engage in a participatory examination of Westphalia's colonial history. Starting with their morning cup of coffee, moving on to street names and ending with certain prejudices, they spent around seven months exploring the traces and consequences of colonialism in everyday life. In the process, new methods of museum work were tested. Guests were able to leave their thoughts in writing in many places or record them in the recording studio. This gave rise to theme-based dialogues that enabled an open-ended approach to (post)colonial issues. In addition, various formats at the interface between museum tours, workshops and theatre opened up new perspectives. Current debates, such as the issue of collecting and exhibiting objects from colonial contexts, were also addressed.

What does colonialism have to do with me? (German Language)

Emmanuel Edoror and Gifty Wiafe ask themselves this question in the video from the entrance area of the exhibition workshop and quickly come to a conclusion: traces of colonialism are still present in many areas of our everyday lives today.
